One DKBA troop and one Burmese army soldier were also killed.<br />The DKBA official said the group had made contact with the woman’s husband in Bangkok, offering an apology and compensation for her death, but no response had yet been received.<br />“We kept her body in Kawkerit for three days and made contact with her husband,” he said.<br />“We told him to come here so we can explain to him what happened and give compensation but he never replied,” he said.<br />A funeral for Ashaygyi was held on Saturday.<br />DKBA troops and government soldiers had recently allied in an offensive against the opposition Karen National Union (KNU), which caused around 4000 Karen civilians to flee into neighbouring Thailand.<br />The DKBA split from the KNU in 1994 and have since enjoyed a ceasefire agreement and close association with the ruling junta.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1296733905538972966-1506553478074382600?l=cncnagoyabranch.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Chin National Community -Japan (NAGOYA branch)noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1296733905538972966.post-88776086302443384752009-08-17T05:48:00.000-07:002009-08-17T05:51:07.998-07:00Aug 15, 2009 (DVB)–A five-day public movement known as the White Campaign has been launched in Burma following the imprisonment of Aung San Suu Kyi and will be carried out across four of Burma’s principle divisions.<br />The campaign was organiseed by a group who have continually held prayer ceremonies every Tuesday since Suu Kyi’s first incarceration, and includes members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party.<br />Myint Myint Aye, NLD secretary in Mandalay division’s Meikhtila township, who is one of the organisers of the campaign, urged the public to join.<br />“From 15 to 19 August, we will be wearing white and holdng prayers at pagodas,” he said. “This is to peacefully express our will to bring our leader to freedom. We urge our NLD members [across Burma] to join in with the campaign.”<br />Anyone can join in with the campaign by wearing white, offering white flowers at pagoda and by painting houses and fences with the colour white, she said.<br />The campaign will be carried out in around 20 different townships in Bago, Mandalay, Magwe and Rangoon divisions.<br />Bago NLD women’s wing leader Khin Nyunt Mu said the campaign “is not a demonstration, this is not an act against the government – we are to only show our will from inside the law.”<br />“We urge the people to use everything white during the campaign – wear white, ride white and also offer white flowers at the pagoda as well as painting your house white or hang white plastic bags by your doors.”<br />On Monday Suu Kyi was sentenced to a further 18 months under house arrest, following a visit by US citizen John Yettaw to her compound in May.<br />The verdict, although short of the anticipated five years in detention, has brought worldwide condemnation. The head of the military-ruled country ordered her to serve an 18-month sentence under house arrest.<br />The 64-year-old Nobel Peace laureate has already been in detention for 14 of the last 20 years, mostly under house arrest, and the extension will remove her from the political scene when the junta stages elections next year.<br />The ruling — which also convicted the American, John Yettaw, and sentenced him to seven years — drew immediate criticism from world leaders, with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown calling it "monstrous." French President Nicolas Sarkozy urged the European Union to adopt new sanctions, calling the verdict "brutal and unjust."<br />But the term was less severe than the maximum sentence she faced — five years in prison — and shorter than the one the court initially ordered Tuesday — three years with hard labor.<br />Five minutes after that sentence was read out, Home Minister Maj. Both are members of her political party.<br />The junta leader said he commuted the sentences to "maintain community peace and stability" and because Suu Kyi was the daughter of Aung San, a revered hero who won Myanmar's independence from Britain.<br />It seemed likely it was in response to intense international pressure, including a call for Suu Kyi's release from the United Nations that was backed by China, Myanmar's key ally and benefactor.<br />South Africa's Archbishop Desmond Tutu warned, however, that the reduced sentence was "not a concession — it is a manipulation of an illegal process. It must not be accepted by any government."<br />Suu Kyi looked alert but tired during the 90-minute court session. She stood as the verdict was announced and then thanked foreign diplomats for attending her trial.<br />"I look forward to working with you in the future for the peace and prosperity of my country and the region," Suu Kyi said in a soft voice to diplomats seated nearby. She then was led out of the courtroom.<br />Officials said she was driven back to her lakeside villa in a six-car convoy. They spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the high-profile case.<br />One of her party members tied yellow ribbons at the gate and two nearby trees as a gesture of welcome. Suu Kyi had been in prison during the trial.<br />Yettaw — who swam across a lake, entered Suu Kyi's home uninvited and asked to spend two nights before trying to secretly swim back — was sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labor.<br />Suu Kyi's trial has sparked international outrage and calls for her release and that of Myanmar's more than 2,000 other political prisoners. The sentence sparked angry reaction from across the globe.<br />"The facade of her prosecution is made more monstrous because its real objective is to sever her bond with the people for whom she is a beacon of hope and resistance," Brown said, calling the verdict a "purely political sentence" aimed at keeping her out of the 2010 elections.<br />Burma Campaign UK, an activist group, called for a global arms embargo against Myanmar and said the junta was "determined to silence all pro-democracy voices in the country in the run up to rigged elections."<br />Suu Kyi's international lawyer, New York-based Jared Genser, said her most recent period of detention violated Myanmar's own laws.<br />"The real question is how the international community will react — will it do more than simply condemn this latest injustice?" he asked.<br />London-based Amnesty International called the sentence "shameful ... nothing more than legal and political theater."<br />The 53-year-old Yettaw, of Falcon, Missouri, was returned to Insein prison, the site of the trial, on Monday night after hospitalization for epileptic seizures.<br />The court sentenced him to three years in prison for breaching Suu Kyi's house arrest. Yettaw was also sentenced to three years in prison for an immigration violation and to another year for swimming in a restricted zone.<br />It was not immediately clear if the prison terms would be served concurrently, but Suu Kyi's lawyer Nyan Win said that if a court does not specify otherwise, sentences are usually served consecutively.<br />Yettaw, a devout Christian, earlier told his lawyer that he swam to Suu Kyi's residence to warn her of an assassination attempt that he had seen in a vision.<br />Yettaw was hospitalized last Monday after suffering seizures. We lost our beloved greatest leader Gen. Aung San and his fellow workers. The Burmese and the tribal people had Panlong Agreement to build the federalism democratic government and to independent under the Bristish colony. However, when the Gen. Aung San was martyred, our nation had lost peace and vavious kind of revolution rose up. The Burmese government tried to abolish the Panlong agreement.<br /><br />2.Oppression under the brutal military regime<br />After the military junta took over the authority, there is no hope for the tribal people of Burma. Burma is one of the most brutal ruled in the world by the military regimes, guilty of human rights violation. They used millions of budget to buy weapon not to defend the country but to kill the civil people. Their heart is full of evil. They are like monster. In their heart, there is no love at all. The regime tried of wipe out the ethnic national groups; the junta uses rape as a weapon of war on a widespread and systematic basis, force labor, religious persecution and torture. Especially, I want to emphasis on Chin ethnic people. The people are the most isolated and forgotten, and communication with the outside world is so limited. There is no Equality, Human Rights, and no freedom in Burma under the military regiem.</div><div>The military regime has a wicket plan to have sodality of their authority. They draw a constitution with asking the 1990 election winner NLD and the trible people. We the Burmese residence over in Japan are gather togathor in Hamamatus, the place where General Aung San and the Japanese built a stone of peace. In the July 19, 1947, the great leader of Burma, the general Aung San and his fellow worker were martyred in Yangon around 10:30am. The Gen. Aung San was the greatest person of Burma who was struggle for the freedom of Burma and who got independent of Burma under the control of the British colony. We the Burmese love him and respect him. I strongly condemn her house arrest and detention, which have also been condemned around the world. The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has issued opinions affirming that the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi dating back to 2003 is arbitrary, unjustified, and in contravention of Burma’s own law, and the United Nations Security Council reaffirmed on May 22 their concern about the situation and called for the release of all political prisoners.<br />Aung San Suu Kyi’s continued detention, isolation, and show trial based on spurious charges cast serious doubt on the Burmese regime’s willingness to be a responsible member of the international community. This is an important opportunity for the government in Burma to demonstrate that it respects its own laws and its own people, is ready to work with the National League for Democracy and other ethnic and opposition groups, and is prepared to move toward reconciliation.<br />By her actions, Aung San Suu Kyi has represented profound patriotism, sacrifice, and the vision of a democratic and prosperous Burma. It is time for the Burmese government to drop all charges against Aung San Suu Kyi and unconditionally release her and her fellow political prisoners. Such an action would be an affirmative and significant step on Burma’s part to begin to restore its standing in the eyes of the United States and the world community and to move toward a better future
